Shredders and chippers
Discover the difference between shredders and chippers and choose the one that best suits your needs.
Shredders and chippers are essential tools for garden maintenance and the ecological management of green waste. These machines help to reduce the volume of branches, leaves, shrubs and other green waste, transforming them into shredded or chipped material that can be easily composted or reused as mulch. Although shredders and chippers are often considered similar, there are significant differences between the two, making them suitable for specific needs in gardening and green maintenance. These machines are a must-have, not only for hobbyists with a passion for green care, gardeners and maintenance workers, but also for rental companies.

Chippers
Shredders are primarily designed to reduce the volume of soft plant material, such as leaves, small branches and pruning waste.
These devices mainly use a cutting system consisting of a drum rotor equipped with floating hammers to shred plant waste, breaking down the material and making it suitable for composting. This cutting system makes shredders suitable for processing even ‘unclean’ material that may contain nails or small stones. Shredders are ideal for maintaining gardens of various sizes, parks or even composting plants where large quantities of prunings and plant residues are collected.
The volume reduction achieved with a shredder is excellent, making it easier to compost or dispose of green waste in an environmentally friendly way.
Wood chippers, on the other hand, are designed to handle harder materials, such as large-diameter branches, logs and timber.
They use a disc or drum cutting system with blades that cut the wood into small pieces, known as wood chips. These wood chips can be used as mulch to protect garden soil or as biomass for heating. Wood chippers are essential tools for green maintenance professionals, gardeners and arborists who have to deal with large volumes of wood waste.
Thanks to their robustness and power, wood chippers can handle larger branches than shredders, making them perfect for large-scale operations.
